The Fling Comes to VP Gardens

I so wanted to go to the Garden Bloggers' Fling in San Francisco last month, but events conspired against me and thus it was left to Helen, Victoria and Lottie to represent the British bloggers this year. Judging by all the posts I've seen by the Flingers, a high old time was had by all :)

Last weekend a fat envelope arrived on our doormat. It was from Helen and stuffed full of the vegetable seeds from her Fling swag bag; it was so thoughtful of her to share her stash. As you can see there's plenty for my 52 Week Salad Challenge and I've always loved the designs used by Botanical Interests on their packets. I'm also a sucker for trying out new varieties of squash, so I'm looking forward to growing 'Sweet Meat' next year.

Thanks for a fabulous haul Helen, you've helped me feel included in this year's event :)

    1. Hi Alison - I'm hoping to come to Portland. I want to see the rain gardens Nigel Dunnett talked about on his course :) We also have a friend in Seattle and Portland's not too far away from her :)

  4. Most thoughtful of Helen to share some flinging with you VP. Have noted the Botanical Interests seed packet illustrations on my web travels before and wish that our seed companies were more imaginative. Have not seen such attractive packet designs over here with the exception of some of Jekka McVicar's seed collections.

    1. Ah that's because Jekka's artist daughter Hannah does the seed packet designs :)

  5. What a super gift! I love Botanical Interests seeds as well--unfortunately, I often find myself so compelled by the illustrations on the beautiful packets that I purchase more than I can handle. One of these days my family will host an intervention against me and demand back the refrigerator space held ransom by my exorbitant seed collection.

  7. What lovely looking seed packets - and a nice way to feel some part of the fling too. I look forward to seeing how you get on with the Chinese Kale, I haven't sown any yet, it is high on my guilt list...

    1. It's a crop I never 'got around to' the last time I had some seeds, so it's good to have the second chance :)
