Now I have another reason to visit Great Dixter, so I can add to my silly sign collection as well as seeing the gardens :)VPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02732971362066784175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4793702278130036246.post-12168465387835120422008-05-13T08:15:00.000+01:002008-05-13T08:15:00.000+01:00that sign made me burst out laughing. Basically you cross back into Kent for a minute, and it says "Welcome to Kent, Garden of England." and then underneath "Kebab, Chicken, Burgers, Next layby"emmathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03914805260939907394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4793702278130036246.post-16032660139224327102008-05-08T20:03:00.000+01:002008-05-08T20:03:00.000+01:00Zoe - we must have started our computing careers a...Zoe - we must have started our computing careers at the same time. The first computer I worked on was an ICL 2900. As a systems analyst/BA I've luckily not been so technologically dependent, but have worked on pretty much every platform going at some time or the other

Threadspider - that's what the guide told us too. His description of how the pigeons got parachuted in had us in stitches!

Flighty - you won't be disappointed. Oh and there's a harrier jump jet on display there too :)

BMF - It was great fun - though the movies were good too

Rosengeranium - so am I!VPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02732971362066784175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4793702278130036246.post-8838719171168619902008-05-06T13:42:00.000+01:002008-05-06T13:42:00.000+01:00So interesting, VP! This past winter I read a lot of mysteries, including a couple by David Baldacci. One of his novels, now I can't remember which one, revolves around code breaking, and I remember the name Alan Turing, although he didn't "appear" in the novel. I'll try to remember the title; you might enjoy it.Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01384059342847120951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4793702278130036246.post-69494860205477616882008-05-06T07:08:00.000+01:002008-05-06T07:08:00.000+01:00Heh, my father was one of the last programmers to ...Heh, my father was one of the last programmers to learn BASIC when he did his programmer training (I was ten at the time) and my hubby used punch cards to program computers at his school. I don't know if this makes _me_ a dinosaur (why, my second computer was an Apple Classic), but I'm definately surrounded by them...Rosengeraniumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14240843576840257964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4793702278130036246.post-52395128221794577182008-05-06T05:34:00.000+01:002008-05-06T05:34:00.000+01:00sounds like so much fun. all i did was see a movie...sounds like so much fun. all i did was see a movie :-)Boutique Mix Fashionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12162509324934220004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4793702278130036246.post-35875271306699824212008-05-05T19:39:00.000+01:002008-05-05T19:39:00.000+01:00That's the sort of place that I'd enjoy! He was one of the programmers on the first ATM systems (Barclays) we had I did a stint with ICL , realised it wasn't where the future was and quickly upgraded my skills to IBM. I used to use an octal card punch as a door stop til my son broke his toe on it! OH is still developing applications/writing code in assembler for operating system level products on IBM mainframes.Zoƫhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09838367166662822058noreply@blogger.com
