Postcard From Canada

Toronto's iconic building: the CN Tower

I've just got back from a fab holiday in Canada, where Victoria and I joined 70 other bloggers from the USA and Canada for several days of varied garden visits and fun during the Garden Bloggers Fling in Toronto. As well as catching up with lots of friends I met in Seattle and Portland, it was great to meet Amanda and Susan at last.

NAH came over with me and as you can see he whisked me up the CN Tower for a sunset visit, plus the opportunity to conquer my fear of heights by walking me across the glass floor in that big bulgy bit you can see in the picture. A further opportunity presented itself during the Fling... more on that later.

Post-Fling, NAH and I toured part of Ontario to the north of Toronto. The friendliness of the Canadians makes it a wonderful place to visit. We had so many interesting conversations with complete strangers and now we're back home it feels odd to no longer be greeting everyone with a smile, a hello and a how's it going?

I'll be telling you more over the next few weeks...

  1. Fantastic, I wish I could have been there! My nephew lives just south of Toronto and we went up the CN Tower when we visited about 10 yrs ago. Yes, I did walk on the glass floor, did you know that under the carpet was glass too, they found that people wouldn't get out of the lift as they were too frightened, so they carpeted most of it !! I will look forward to reading about all the wonderful gardens you visited.

    1. Good grief so I was walking on a glass floor most of the time! If I'd known that I would have been one of the ones not getting out of the lift - amazing!

    1. Amanda, I'm so glad we got to meet at long last. Our walk and lunch together at the brick factory was one of my highlights of the trip :)

  3. Glad to hear that you had a great time in Canada.

Your comments about talking to people started me off on a search. So did you know there is to be a Talk to Me Day on 18th July? We could all try it, couldn't we? http://talktomeday.org/

  4. Oh lucky you VP - I look forward to hearing more about the trip. My brother spent a year working in Toronto many moons ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He has returned since with his family for holidays. I share that same fear of heights so hats off to you and a hug if you made it across that glass floor. I'm getting dizzy just looking at your photo :)

  6. Not sure I could have walked across a glass floor that high up! Maybe when I was younger … I wonder whether the architect who designed the tower was able to step out of the lift onto an uncarpeted glass floor?! Well done for making it and so pleased you had a good trip. Will look forward to reading all about it. I've never been but my parents have visited and godparents used to live there. Great lifestyle by all accounts. Cx

  7. Isn't Canada great in their outgoing friendliness? Near me it can be like that, at least on this side of the Mexican border. But not nearly the cosmopolitan feel of Toronto!

    1. Canadians are great :) I went to a party last week where I met a couple about to go to Canada again. The first remark they made was how wonderfully friendly Canadians are. Great to see you here again too :)
