Oh What a Circus, Oh What a Show

I went to Bristol's new temple of consumerism, Cabot Circus yesterday to meet some friends for lunch. The architecture's very striking and even the Christmas decorations are on a gigantic scale. I found myself not dashing round the stores in a shopaholic frenzy, but instead thinking for the first time ever about a striking contemporary garden - containing lots of clean lines with mixed textures and materials.

Most inspiring but probably not what the owners had in mind for me at all.

  5. Hi Guyz - thanks for stopping by! They even have an art trail round the new centre, but I found my own :)

Victoria - I was rather taken by it, but not in the way the store owners meant me to be!

Debbi - I've seen your collages, so thanks for the compliment :)

Ewa - I was a bit surprised too. Christmas doesn't hit this household until December. I hope Atomik is getting better.

  6. HMMMM I like!

Being a bird of an architectural nest, I ADORE clean and slick buildings.

Tasty mixes of texture, materials, and yes, even movement joints can be sexy.

Materials are appreciated more when they are contrasted with another, or feature a 'comma' of a movement joint.

And, inspired by the window in the collage I think I will commission a T-shirt bearing the phrase:

    'please pardon my appearance'

    so apt. xxx

  7. Claire - I'm so glad you took the trouble to look at what was written on the window. Your idea for a tee-shirt is priceless ;)

I'm in the thick of writing up all the whirling ideas from this visit in my sketchbook. I never thought I would 'get' contemporary gardens. It just shows you need to get the right inspiration first!
