Hoary Morning

Collage of hoar frost in my garden, January 2015

You may have noticed my sidebar says I'm looking forward to some magical hoar frost.
I'm pleased to say it arrived.

A second collage of hoar frost pictures from my garden

  1. Brrrrrrr - feeling cold just looking. I'm glad that got what you were waiting for and were able to take some brilliant photos too. A positively balmy 6 degrees here VP but whilst you have a glorious blue sky ours is rather cloudy. Hope that you are back in now with a warm drink to defrost you.

    1. I took these on Friday Anna and like you it's warmer today after the initial frost. I'm not looking forward to the end of the week when it's forecast to get much colder!

  2. Beautiful photos. We had the most wonderful hoar frost here two or three years ago, and down at the castle everything had turned white, it was utterly stunning. I enjoyed reading your explanation of how it occurs, and the difference between ground frost and air frost, thank you.

    1. I remember that day CJ - we went to Poole and the scenery driving over was breath taking. I so wish I had a camera to capture it but luckily the images have burned onto my memory :)

    1. I've been enjoying the cold, crisp days in the garden! I have a mahoosive dead clematis to clear and that's keeping me very warm!

  4. Absolutely beautiful, thank you for braving the cold to take your photos. Hope it doesn't get too cold for you later this week, stay warm and cosy!

  5. The most beautiful I saw was some years ago on my way to work - I posted photo taken with my mobile phone on an old blog that I once kept - they are here http://designsonnature.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/hoar-frost.html if you are interested. It only affected a very small area and I just happened to be there at the right time. I've never seem anything like it since.

  7. Beautiful photos, VP. I took some out of the window when we had frost last week, but didn't brave the cold to get close-ups like you!
