ABC Wednesday 4: U is For...

...Underfoot

One of things I learnt from my visit to Chelsea is that the devil's in the detail. No matter how much you look at the TV and internet coverage, there will be lots of tiny little design details and ideas that you can only glean by actually being there. This is some of the paving used in A Japanese Tranquil Retreat: I didn't particularly like this garden, but I loved the solution used to add interest to the paved areas. It just goes to show that even where I wasn't inspired by the overall design, there's still something to engage and interest.

  1. Hi! I came by to say thank you for ALL of the gifts you sent via Anna. I received the wonderful envelope full of cards and letters yesterday and it felt like Christmas. Thank you for all the time you put into the needlepoint bookmark and tea bag holder (black currant is one of my faves) and postcards, etc. You will love when it's your turn.

  3. Even attending something is person, it's easy to miss details. There's just so much to see. I'm amazed at seeing other people's photos from Spring Fling--many similar shots but also many things I never saw at all!

  4. This is a lovely paver! One of the things I love about visiting other gardens is getting ideas for my own. As you say, you may not like the overall effect, but often there is some little detail that captures your attention. I hope you are enjoying your holiday!

  5. A true walk-on masterpiece U found for U, I like it a lot. Is it called a step stone or a paver or what?

  6. Fantastic, VP! Love the paver, but I'm also so impressed with your choice of "U" word. Perfect! It's also a great reminder not to dismiss a garden simply because it's not to your taste, but to look deeper in case it still has a lesson or tidbit for you.

  8. Thanks for you comments everyone. As I was on holiday at the time and am now playing catch up, I'm doing a general thank you here and will come and visit you over at yours as soon as possible.
